| Del Mar Mile A Potential Race Of The Year Candidate |
|
Over the weekend, many fishing games enthusiasts also watching horse racing, had the opportunity to watch one of the best races of the season, at the Del Mar Mile, in Del Mar, California. Caracortado and Mr. Commons found themselves entrenched in a sports betting tie all the way to the finish line before Caracortado came away with the victory. The $200,000 Del Mar Mile for 2011, can be considered as a race of the year candidate, as from start to finish the fans were on their feet. Ridden by jockey Joe Talamo Caracortado finished the mile long race in just under a minute 40. In fact, the final quarter of the race, was run in 22 seconds flat, a new course record. Despite running the final quarter in 22 seconds, Caracortado and Talamo were in desperate need of a miracle, as Mr. Commons was nose by nose with its rival. While Caracortado and Mr. Commons will be remembered as the first and second place horses, one can’t forget third and fourth place finishers Calimonco and Victory Pete. Calimonco was less than a length back of the two aforementioned horses, and Victory Pete was a length back. Meaning to say, if the race had gone any longer, fans may have been able to see a photo finish involving four horses. According to Talamo, this past weekend’s victory at Del Mar, was the first in quite sometime, where he felt his horse had a ton left to give. The victory for Caracortado was only the four year old chestnut colt’s first since January when it won the Sunshine Millions at Santa Anita Racecourse, also in California. Overall in 17 starts, Caracortado has eight wins and winnings of $774,105. |
