While all of the pay head attention will undoubtedly remain on the $5 million Breeders Cup Classic that closes the event at Churchill Downs this weekend, some of the hardcore horse racing fans will have their eyes on the fifth running of the Grade One $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, which will take place on opening night Friday.

The undoubted favorite heading in to the event is Horse-for-course Dubai Majesty, a two-time heroine of the G3 Winning Colors at Churchill Downs. Coming off another strong performance, she will look to push defending champion Informed Decision. Considering how well Dubai Majesty has ran at Churchill Downs in the recent past, there is no reason to doubt the horse as the sports betting favorite. Another horse to keep an eye on is Sassy Image, which has also ran well at Churchill Downs in the past. Following a decisive win at the Humana Distaff in which she was a 16-1 underdog, several supporters have latched on to the Dale Romans-trained entry as a solid upset intertops pick to win it all. The chestnut certainly has the credentials to win. Romans is currently enjoying a banner year after winning his first Classic in the Preakness, and he has trained Sassy Image hoping to continue his strong season. All eyes will be on the Classic on Saturday and for good reason, but it’s the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint that could provide the best head-to-head competition with Dubai Majesty edging out Sassy Image.
