| Online Horse Betting – A Quick Look At The Preakness Stakes |
|
One of the most prestigious sports betting events in North America, the Preakness Stakes race in run on the third Saturday of every May at the historic Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Named after the Dinner Party Stakes in 1870, the race has transformed over the years as one of the highly-anticipated events of the summer, and recognized for its role as the second leg in the Triple Crown. The Preakness was not always run at Pimlico Race Course, as Morris Park in New York hosted the race in 1890, and for 15 years it was run in Brooklyn, New York before returning back to Maryland in 1909. The Preakness Stakes wasn’t always run behind the Kentucky Derby, as it came first in that line on 11 occasions and in 1917 and 1922 the two races were run on the same day. The first Triple Crown winner, Sir Barton, claimed the first Triple Crown win when it took the Preakness just four days after winning the Kentucky Derby. The distances the race has been run at have changed over the years, ranging from one mile to 1 ½ miles, but the current distance of 1 3/16 miles has been run since 1925. Only two female jockeys have ever run in the race in Patricia Cooksey and Andrew Seefeldt, and neither of them managed to show. However, with NHL trade deadline almost here, and the March Madness betting just around the corner, it isn’t too early to start getting excited for this year’s Preakness Stakes and another potential Triple Crown winner to be crowned. |
