Horse betting fans are witnessing history in the making as six year old Zenyatta looks for her elusive 20th consecutive win since breaking her maiden as a three year old. But as many online horse betting enthusiasts know, if it wasn't for these three horses, Zenyatta's feat for 20 may not have been possible. Here are three horses that we consider to be the greatest of all time, and without them, the sport of horse racing may not be what it is today.
- Secretariat - Before Zenyatta, there was Secretariat. This legendary horse won 16 of its 21 overall starts. Secretariat won the Triple Crown in 1973, and set three records, two official for fastest time, at Churchill Downs and Belmont, and one unofficial record at Pimlico. In 1973 when Secretariat solidified itself as the greatest race horse of all time, it did so by smashing all of the records for the Triple Crown locations. Without Secretariat's feats in 1973, we might not have been able to witness the fast pace style that so many other great horses have exhibited since then.
- Man O'War - Before Zenyatta and Secretariat, Man O'War was the greatest race horse of all time. Similar to Secretariat, Man O'War also won the Triple Crown. However, what separates the two horses from each other would be wins and distance records. Man O'War won 20 of 21 starts, while Secretariat won the Belmont Stakes by 12 furlongs.
- Affirmed - One of the best all around horses, if it weren't for the likes of Affirmed and Man O'War, the popularity horse racing has experienced since then, would probably not be the case. In 29 career starts, Affirmed won 22 times and placed three more times. Affirmed beat some of the best horses at the time, but was considered the greatest of the pack.
